If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.
Why this site exists:
I have often felt listless as October becomes November and our Indiana landscape retreats into 6 months of flowerless brown. So in 2022, I endeavored to capture, in as appealing a way as I knew how, every bloom from spring until fall that burst into our view. There were, in total, nearly 300 unique specimens. By documenting each flower as it bloomed, I was able to create a phenology table for my back yard too (what blooms when). Super cool. Thus, from the first Winter Aconite to the final Purple Turtlehead, this is a catalogue of that journey through my garden.
All images were captured by me. I use a Sony a7III. Two lenses seemed to lend themselves to this project: The Sigma 105mm 2.8 DG DN Macro and my favorite utility lens, the Tamron Di III RXD 28-75mm .
These flowers are all from our Indiana (Zone 6b) gardens. They are presented in order of bloom date. Come back here each week for a new bloom. (Last updated (9/2/2023)
